According to Fox 32, the incident occurred near State and Randolph Streets around 10 p.m., just hours after the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Ald. Brian Hopkins of Chicago's 2nd Ward said at least five people were shot, one in critical condition.

He wrote on X, "300 minors are rioting in the Loop right now. At least five people have been shot, one in critical condition and one in the torso with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound."

He added, "Several police officers were attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, at least one PO is hospitalized."

Police have not confirmed Hopkins' statement, including the number of victims.

The incident is still under investigation.
