Four people were injured in a shooting during a Christmas tree lighting event in Concord, North Carolina, on Friday, according to police.

Concord police said three victims were in critical condition and one was in stable condition. All four victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Union Street S, near the intersection with Carbon Avenue, during the city's annual tree lighting ceremony.

Police, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS personnel were already at the event and immediately responded to provide medical assistance and evacuate people.

The remainder of the event was canceled following the shooting.

The city said attendees should leave the area and drivers should seek alternative routes.

Concord police said the incident is still under investigation. Officers are reviewing footage from the event and speaking with several witnesses.
