A fire broke out on a cargo ship at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro on Friday, forcing the crew to be evacuated, according to officials, who described the incident as a major emergency.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, all 23 crew members were safely evacuated from the ship. No injuries were reported.
Fire was observed on multiple levels of the ship. The department said hazardous materials have been identified in the affected bay, and hazmat crews are monitoring air quality.
Around 8 p.m., an explosion occurred mid-deck, affecting power on the ship, including lighting and crane operations.
According to officials, more than 100 firefighters responded to the scene. "First responders are working quickly on a fire on a container ship at the Port of Los Angeles," Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X. "LAFD is continuing firefighting efforts and monitoring air quality."
